A child is born to a young mother, presumably a virgin,
and the celebration begins. The wonderful gift of God soon transforms
in a tragedy and finally a murder. This is a film about corruption at
all social levels. A remarkable "theatrical" setting, minimalist
action, colourful dialogues and Greenaway's shocking conception turn the
film (particularly its end) into something quite unforgettable.

Windows
Great Britain, 1975, 4 mins, 16 mm
directed by Peter Greenaway
A combination of statistical data about 37 persons who
either fell or jumped through windows during one year and in one municipality,
and pictures of a Greenaway country- house window, with a voice narrating
information on these people against the sounds of harpsichord.
H is for House
Great Britain, 1978, 9 mins, 16 mm
directed by Peter Greenaway
A family in the garden of an English country house on
a summer day. Greenaway recites, with the help of his daughter, the alphabet
filled with puns, rhymes and unusual phrases. Three ironic anecdotes about
the transitoriness of time, movement of the sun, and directions of the
heavens are woven in the alphabet.
Dear Phone
Great Britain, 1976, 17 mins, 16 mm
directed by Peter Greenaway
A larger number of hardly believable stories (or fantasies?) about persons
with initial letters H. C. and their unusual uses of telephone. Pictures
of telephone boxes in different places, constant ringing of the phone,
taped and erased messages, cut-off telephone conversations, and similar,
express the idea that our everyday life is ruled by imperious telephones.
A Walk through H
Great Britain, 1978, 42 mins, 16 mm
directed by Peter Greenaway
music Michael Nyman
One of the finest British short films of the decade, resisting
all explanation and description. A witty criss-cross between Borges and
Disney, with the dreamy music by Michael Nyman. The film was made after
the death of Greenaway's father.
Vertical Feature Remake
Great Britain, 1978, 45 mins, 16mm
directed by Peter Greenaway
music Michael Nyman
We witness the endeavours of the fictitious Reclamation
and Restoration Institute in its reconstruction of the study by the ornithologist

Stories of exactly 92 persons whose name begins with the
prefix "Fall". Reports on people with their different biographies,
randomly taken from the last edition of the Violent Unknown Event Standard
Directory, which has definitely changed the life as we know it. These
short biographies (rarely longer than five minutes) differ in the details
of presentation, narrative style and contents. A fascinating collage of
puzzles, acrostics, bizarre images, unexpected turns, and romanticism.

Act of God
Great Britain, 1981, 25 mins, colour, 16 mm
directed by Peter Greenaway
A combination of credible interviews and fictional stories
about experiences and perceptions of thunderbolts and statistical calculations
of the released forces, accompanied with shots of roaming clouds, images
of lightnings, a naked burned body, and similar.
Making a Splash
Breat Britain, 1984, 25 mins, coulour, beta
directed by Peter Greenaway
A remarkably original "opera dedicated to water".
Greenaway gradually introduces the medium of water into the film; its
climax is the presentation of man's fear of drowning, which transforms
into the perfectly skilful art of swimming combined with the presentation
of the sports from 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Fear of Drowning
Breat Britain, 1988, 26 mins, colour, beta
directed by Peter Greenaway
With his own voice Greenaway presents "a commentary
in hundred parts" on the shooting of his film Drowning by Numbers
(1987). He discusses and analyses characteristics and features of the
filmed sequences.
Water Wrackets
Great Britain, 1975, 12 mins, colour, 16 mm
directed by Peter Greenaway
Serial images of water and pictures of lakes, changing with those of running
and stagnant water, reflections, waves, and raindrops. The sound (only
sometimes accentuated by a corresponding picture) is composed of a voice
reciting a fictional historic account and accentuated natural sounds of
animals and water.
