Rodin 1
Večer, 17.12.2004, Anja Golob
The performance integrates various media - the female aspect
of the performance is meshed into a fragmentary monologue of an actress
that keeps moving between five silent bodies... These motionless bodies
slide into replicas of statues and attempt to hold that position. Yet
since body is not made of stone (no matter how sculpted it seems) it gradually
breaks into sweat and wears down. The sounds it emits, the clear traces
of effort reverse the usual sculpting perspective - the body, which was
supposed to serve as a sculptor's model, does not turn the sculpture into
a mere replica of itself but into an original in its own right. The statue
thus regains its own identity. This is, in my opinion, the best aspect
of the performance, since it presents us with a strong structure and forms
an excellent layer opening a plethora of meanings. The execution of the
"movers" is disciplined, unpretentious and consequently highly
effective.
