re:construction
projects
Slowly the glowing square
sliding into inwardness
pours into the blackness.
RE:CONSTRUCTION is a new line of projects which follows
characteristics of the city. They are conceived as a theatre in a gallery
space. The gallery space extends from the interior of the building, where
the performance is taking place, as its projection to the existent facade.
In repetitions it is displaced to other locations in the city. Through
travelling the theatre performance is made sensible. It makes its sense
through its re-runs as a site specific event in the urban environment.
At the site of the primary event the exterior as a matter of fact "covers"
the happening in the interior (the projection on the facade is taking
place simultaneously with the performance in the building), while through
its re-runs it slides into the space. The journey of the play (performance?)
- its "projection" - is therefore seen on the bridge across
the river, on the building in need of renovation or in place of the building,
which has been pulled down and replaced with the road.
The projection (as a simultaneous record of the event
in the interior of the building) could be replaced with the frozen image
of the happening, the static frame from the performance, its visual or
written record. The spoken word on the surface of the environment is the
secluded image from the interior (intimacy) turned inside out, a picture-out-of-the-picture.
Then again, the re-runs at various other sites in the city happen at out-of-the-way
places, in a non-frequent area where the performance addresses coincidental
passers-by. It renews and restarts its meaning as far as it lives.
